Today, as more employees bring their own mobile devices into the workplace, there is a corresponding increase in risk and headache to the organization. First, mobile devices represent a threat to the corporate IT network as well as its data security. Often, they do not benefit from the same security and data protection guidelines as other devices, such as desktop computers. Finally, when users bring their own devices they often give greater weight to their own rights on the device than to their employer’s need to protect its proprietary data. How does an organization balance the increased productivity of BYOD with the additional risk? In this free Lunchinar presentation, Simplex-IT’s Bob Coppedge will discuss the Good, the Bad and the Ugly of BYOD. He’ll weigh the pros and cons, discuss best practices and suggest policy positions that, when implemented, will help limit your risk. You won’t want to miss this!

The Akron Beacon Journal
BEACON JOURNAL ANNOUNCES 175TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS
The Akron Beacon Journal launched a yearlong 175th birthday celebration today with the publication of the first of five monthly historical pages. The special feature wraps around the A section. The Beacon Journal traces its roots to April 15, 1839, making it the oldest continuously operating business in Summit County. “We are going to celebrate in style and include you in the party,” Publisher Mark Cohen and Editor Bruce Winges said in an announcement to readers. “We invite you all to celebrate our 175th anniversary,” said Cohen and Winges. “After all, how can we have a party without our closest friends?”
Highlights of the celebrations include:
- At the end of the five months of historical pages in July, readers will vote for their favorite pages on Ohio.com.
- On April 14, the newsroom will tell the story of Akron through past headlines that look back 10, 25, 50 and 100 years. This weekly feature, “History in Beacon Journal headlines,” will appear Mondays on the front of the Community section.
- On April 15, the community is invited to join newspaper staff at Canal Park for an evening of baseball and free birthday cake. The Akron RubberDucks will host the Trenton Thunder at 6:35 p.m. and offer special ticket prices through its “Two for Tuesdays” program.
- In September, the newsroom will publish a commemorative keepsake celebrating not only the newspaper’s proud past but also its focus on the future as a media company.
- In the fall, the Beacon Journal and the Akron Art Museum will collaborate on a photojournalism exhibit that will include images from the present and the past.
- An anniversary gala on Saturday, Oct. 25, will close the anniversary year on a high note. Details to come.
