2016 Better Block Coming to Cuyahoga Falls/Summer 2016!

08 Jan 2016 Better Block Coming to Cuyahoga Falls/Summer 2016!

A New Year Brings New Opportunities for Cuyahoga Falls Historic Riverfront

CF BB Banner
Cuyahoga Falls natives Getta Cornici and Samantha Coldwell have dedicated their New Year’s resolutions to benefit the revival of a less frequented, yet unique, area of their childhood town. And all community members are encouraged to participate.

The plan of action? Better Block is coming to Cuyahoga Falls next summer.  Jason Roberts, Better Block project founder, and Cuyahoga Falls Better Block committee members will announce the official event date at a public meeting on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016. The meeting is open to the entire community, and input is welcome from all attendees. Individuals who plan to attend may register for free at fallsbetterblock.com.

In an effort to help redevelop communities, the Better Block project acts as a demonstration tool to provide local residents and visitors opportunities to actively engage in the build out process and share feedback in real time. The summer 2016 Cuyahoga Falls Better Block will focus on the north end of the Falls Riverfront Pedestrian Mall.

“Better Block would provide an opportunity to build upon the city’s momentum and help bring these initiatives to life,” said Mayor Don Walters. “While the city continues to focus on infrastructure and development, the Better Block can complement the vision by aiding in community revitalization and bringing focus to potential businesses.”

In September, Torchbearers awarded Cornici and Coldwell a $10,000 Small Projects Achieving Real Change (SPARC) grant to fund the Cuyahoga Falls Better Block project. The SPARC grant represents funding initially provided by the James and John S. Knight Foundation.

  • The Jan. 14, 2016 public meeting will occur at 7 p.m. at the Natatorium, located at 2345 Fourth Street in Cuyahoga Falls. More Cuyahoga Falls Better Block details will be published at fallsbetterblock.com within the next month.

2016 Better Block Sponsorship Opportunities

Dear Community Business Leader:
The purpose behind the Better Block concept is to work with cities, developers, and stakeholders to create quick, inexpensive, high-impact changes that improve and revitalize underused properties and highlight the potential for creating great “Complete Streets”. The Better Block initiative creates a “quick win” using the “Better Block” approach that brings greater attention to developments prior to buildout, which in turn increases the potential for pre-leasing.

The City of Cuyahoga Falls is working to renew and restore the Riverfront Pedestrian Mall area and the Better Block would be a unique and innovative way to catapult and enhance the city’s efforts. “Better Block would provide an opportunity to build upon the city’s momentum and help bring these initiatives to life. While the city continues to focus on infrastructure and development, the Better Block can complement the vision by aiding in community revitalization and bringing focus to potential businesses” says Mayor Don Walters. Better Block could showcase this opportunity for the area and encourage entrepreneurial spirit on the Riverfront.

As a respected member of the Summit County business community, I ask that you please consider sponsoring this exciting project. There is no question that we cannot meet our goal without generous support from our community.

Enclosed you will find a sponsorship agreement with the many levels of partnership available.

What is a Better Block?
The purpose behind the Better Block concept is to work with cities, developers, and stakeholders to create quick, inexpensive, high-impact changes that improve and revitalize underused properties and highlight the potential for creating great “Complete Streets”. The Better Block will complement the city’s vision by aiding in community revitalization and bringing focus to potential businesses. Pop up businesses would fill the empty storefronts, current businesses would have the opportunity to showcase their products and services, residents of Cuyahoga Falls and nearby communities would be out in full force enjoying the possibility of this area being revitalizes to its full potential.
